Jay is ordained through the Evangelical Ministerial Association and was licensed through Rolling Hills Baptist Church. Jay has spent many hours training with the Center for Relational Care out of Austin Texas. It was there were he learned about Emotional/Relational needs, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and most of all…comfort. This revolutionized his ministry, teaching, and life.
He launched his website, jaymitlo.com in June of 2012. There have been over 300 posts and sermons on many topics but all focus on being real, dealing with life (the good and the worst), and simply telling his story.
You see, his youngest son Trey was diagnosed with cancer in 2010. He lived a “normal” life and didn’t even know what cancer was, that he had it or what his diagnosis was. The hospital was just where he went, it was normal, it was his life. He earned his nickname “YoungWarrior.” He completed his battle with cancer on November 5th 2014.
Trey is survived by his brother and sister Joe and Bella. One of Jay’s primary responsibilities is and was helping them to not get swallowed up with their brother’s disease. They are incredible and enough to handle on their very own.
Jay has always been very involved in the local community. He has coached the Penn Hills volleyball teams since 1996 and has been the “voice of the Penn Hills Indians” announcing the football and basketball games (and many other schools and community things) since 2009.
Jay has been blessed to be the husband of Rachel since 1999. Out of respect for her he will not go into much detail about her other than she is the most amazing woman he has ever met.
